New Delhi: The Center has extended Category Z coverage from the armed commandos of the CRPF to opposition presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha, officials said on Friday.

The team took over the task after the Union Home Ministry ordered the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) VIP Security Wing to provide protection for 84-year-old Sinha year.

Armed personnel, about eight to 10 working in shifts, will escort Sinha whenever he moves across the country, they said.

Higher Z-plus coverage of CRPF commandos was also given to NDA presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu.

Sinha is expected to file his nomination on June 27, after which he will travel the country to get votes in his favour.

The presidential election would be held on July 18 to elect a successor to incumbent President Ram Nath Kovind and the result would be known on July 21.

Kovind’s term will end on July 24.
