Collingwood fireworks could be banned OCN News

The town of Collingwood is considering banning traditional fireworks, citing noise and environmental concerns.

The city notes growing concern about the negative impacts of fireworks “on wildlife and pets.”

He says loud noises cause “panic reactions that can have disastrous consequences for animal health and welfare.”

It also mentions the “serious environmental impacts” caused by harmful gases and pollutants that “poison the air, water and soil”.

The city said many municipalities across Canada, the United States and Europe are banning traditional fireworks in favor of other fireworks, including “quiet fireworks or fireworks drones”.

The city asked staff to recommend other forms of lighting for special events, which will be included in the 2023 budget discussion.
