Block administration in danger if done

Ghatal News: The boat owners have warned that they will not give the boat this year as the boat rental is not fair. The boat owners in the Ghatal block have complained that the rent has gone up for years but the full amount has not been matched yet, so they have decided not to rent the boat anymore.

West Midnapore: The rain has come. There is a risk of flood. On Thursday, the boat owners complained that the boat rental money did not match. Their threat is not to flood the boat this year, and the Ghatal block administration is uneasy about it. It is to be noted that floods actually inundate vast areas of Ghatal subdivision every year. Multiple blocks are submerged in water, especially in 9 out of 12 gram panchayats of Ghatal block, Ghatal municipal area, Ghatal municipal area and even state roads are submerged under water, at that time Ghatal is the only means of communication for the people.

Officially, the gram panchayat, municipality, public works department and even the police administration hire boats from the flood-affected villagers to provide boat services to the flood-affected people. At that time only gram panchayats had to pay boat rent of Rs 25-30 lakh. And by renting that boat to the gram panchayat, even if it rains again year after year, the boat owners are warned not to pay the money properly, they will not give the boat to the flood this year.

According to Ghatal Block administration sources, 50 to 52 boats were hired from the Gram Panchayat to serve the people of 9 out of 12 areas of Ghatal Block. In the case of that boat rent, the money is borne by the Disaster Management Office, the rent of a boat is 1800 rupees per day, which is very low.

The boat owners have warned that they will not give up the boat this year if the boat rental is not matched properly. The boat owners in the Ghatal block have complained that the rent has gone up for years but the full amount has not been matched yet, so they have decided not to rent the boat anymore. Not only that, their complaint is that the price of petrol and diesel is constantly rising. Therefore, in order to determine the boat fare, it is necessary to increase the boat fare.

During the floods, the boats rented by the Public Works Department cost Rs 2,800 per day. In the case of the boat of the panchayat, the gram panchayat pays 1800 rupees. The cost of repairing a boat is around Rs 50,000-60,000 per year. Although no one spoke in front of the camera, according to the block administration, the boats that are rented from the Public Works Department and the municipality are given Rs 2,600 as daily rent and wages during the floods. Compared to that, it is less in the gram panchayat.

However, Dilip Majhi, vice-president of Ghatal Panchayat Samiti, said, “If the boat owners do not get the money to take the boat during the floods, the matter will be looked into. If the owners do not give the boat, there will be a problem for the flood-affected people, so we will see soon. If someone doesn’t get the money, pay them quickly. ” On the other hand, he admits that the money the gram panchayat carries for rent is negligible. In the case of a boat, the rent needs to be higher.

When asked about this, West Midnapore District Magistrate Ayesha Rani said, “All the owners did not get the money and told the sub-divisional magistrate and the BDOs to take the matter seriously.”
