Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor, was beheaded in a beach market in Rajasthan’s Udaipur district’s Dhanmandi police station area on Tuesday for allegedly supporting Nupur Sharma. Curfew has been imposed in seven police station areas of the city from 8 pm on Tuesday till further orders, along with internet shutdown for 24 hours in the entire Udaipur district after the heightened tension after the murder. Expressing grief over the incident, senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot has appealed to maintain peace and brotherhood.
Sachin Pilot tweeted, “The brutal and heart-wrenching murder of a youth in Udaipur is extremely sad and condemnable, I condemn it. The perpetrators of this inhuman act should be given the strictest punishment. I appeal to all to maintain peace and brotherhood.
Before him, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had also appealed to the public to maintain peace and not share the video. Gehlot said that the culprits will not be released. Police is working on this with full vigilance.

Both the accused who killed Kanhaiya Lal have been arrested by the Rajasthan Police. The arrested accused have been identified as Mohammad Riaz and Mohammad Ghaus. Both are residents of Surajpol area of Udaipur. Police arrested both these accused from Bhima in Rajsamand district, which is about 160 km from Udaipur.
After this incident, curfew has been imposed in seven police station areas- Dhanmandi, Ghantaghar, Hathipol, Ambamata Surajpol, Bhupalpura and Savina from eight o’clock on Tuesday night on the orders of Udaipur DM Tarachand Meena.
According to the DM, two Additional Director Generals of Police, a Deputy Inspector General of Police, a Superintendent of Police, 30 officers of Rajasthan Police Service and five RAC companies have been sent to Udaipur to monitor the situation during this period.
Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Hawa Singh Ghumaria said an alert has been issued at the state level and Range Inspector General of Police and Superintendent of Police have been asked to increase patrolling and increase mobility as a precautionary measure.
