The Manipur High Court on Friday declared the election of sitting MP from Outer Manipur Lok Sabha seat Lorho S Phoje void and disqualified him. Along with this, the court has declared the BJP leader Hulim Shokhopao Met alias Benjamin Mate, who came second in the then Lok Sabha elections from the same seat, elected from the Outer Manipur seat.

Justice MV Muraleedharan of the Manipur High Court on Friday passed a 150-page order in this regard. In fact, BJP leader Hulim Shokhopao Met has filed a petition in the High Court claiming that there are flaws in the election affidavit of Lorho S. Foje. After which the court, after hearing the facts on the whole matter, made his election void on Friday.

He had also challenged Lorho’s election by claiming that the Returning Officer of the parliamentary constituency had suddenly and improperly accepted Lorho’s nomination papers without scrutiny on March 26, 2019. The hearing in this case started from June 8, 2022.

Lorho S Phoje is an MP from the Naga People’s Front (NPF) and hails from Kayinu village in Senapati district. While Benjamin Mate is a resident of Tengnoupal village in Tengnoupal district. In Lok Sabha Elections 2019, sitting NPF MP Lorho S Foje got 3,63,527 votes and BJP candidate Benjamin Met got 2,89,745 votes. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, a total of seven candidates, including Congress candidate James, were in the fray for this seat.
