Former Meghalaya Governor and BJP leader Tathagata Roy has said in a tweet that the people of Kolkata are apprehensive of setting up for the meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Roy said, “The apprehension means that there should be some secret pact between Narendra Modi and Mamata Banerjee, which will leave the corrupt Trinamool Congress leaders and the killers of BJP workers.”
Roy has said that the Prime Minister should assure the people that there will be no such setting. Let us inform that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is on a Delhi tour and here she has met Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Partha Chatterjee case
The last few days of West Bengal’s politics have been very hot as the central probe agency ED recovered more than 50 crore cash, gold and important documents from different houses of Arpita Mukherjee, a close aide of Partha Chatterjee, who was a minister in Mamata government.
Because Partha Chatterjee was one of Mamta Banerjee’s close friends, so its direct heat was coming on Mamta Banerjee. Taking action, Mamta Banerjee removed Chatterjee from the post of minister.
Earlier, former Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh had also said that Mamata Banerjee uses her meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to send a message that some setting has been done. Dilip Ghosh had appealed to the central government to understand this and not to fall in the trap of Mamta.
Rejecting the statements of BJP leaders, Trinamool Congress leader Sukhendu Shekhar Roy had said that such allegations keep making by opposition leaders and it is completely baseless.
BJP-Trinamool workers clash
It has to be told that in West Bengal, there have been violent clashes between BJP and Trinamool Congress workers for the past several years. Many people have lost their lives in these clashes and Bengal has been known for political killings. Tathagata Roy, through his tweet, has conveyed this to the BJP leadership and Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the central government and BJP should not make any kind of agreement with Mamta Banerjee so that the killers of the killed BJP workers do not go away.
However, such a tweet by Tathagata Roy and Dilip Ghosh’s statement can go awry for the BJP leadership and the party leadership may also give some warning to them.
Roy wanted to become CM face
Tathagata Roy’s name came to the fore when the battle over the chief minister’s face intensified before the 2021 assembly elections in the Bengal BJP. When Tathagata Roy returned to Bengal in the year 2020 after retiring from the post of Governor of Meghalaya, he openly expressed his desire to be made the face of the Chief Minister.
Roy comes from the background of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. He left the government job and joined politics. He has been the President of Bengal BJP and raised the party’s flag during the bad times of BJP in Bengal. He has a large number of supporters in the state.
BJP leaders had sweated profusely ahead of the 2021 assembly elections to form their government in Bengal. From Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, all the ministers of the Central Government and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh had given full force. But the election results were disappointing for the party and Mamata Banerjee won a landslide victory.
But now Mamta Banerjee may come under some pressure after the cash found from the house of Arpita Mukherjee, aide of Partha Chatterjee. Because the ED can tighten the noose on many more Trinamool Congress leaders in the teacher recruitment scam. Apart from this, the CBI has questioned Rujira Narula Banerjee, wife of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s MP nephew Abhishek Banerjee, in the coal scam case. Later, the ED also questioned Rujira.
More news from West Bengal
In the Narada sting case in 2021, the CBI raided the houses of the then cabinet minister Firhad Hakim, cabinet minister Subrata Mukherjee, TMC MLA Madan Mitra and Sovan Chatterjee. These four leaders were arrested by the CBI after interrogation.
In such a situation, it can be understood why Tathagata Roy, a former BJP leader, has tweeted threatening the setting before the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
