Recently, Shaukat Ahmad Rather, a senior lecturer in Persian at Government Higher Secondary School, Wagara Hansahib, Budgam, was suspended from his post in Srinagar. This action was taken in view of his violation of rule 22 (i) of the Jammu and Kashmir Government Servants (Conduct) Rules, 1971.

According to this rule, “no Government servant who has a living spouse shall enter into another marriage without first obtaining the permission of the Government, even if such subsequent marriage is permitted by their personal law at the time.”

The suspension, effective September 13, 2023, is pending an investigation into Rutter’s conduct.

With immediate effect, Rather has been suspended and will be based in the office of the Chief Education Officer in Ganderbal during this period.

To ensure a thorough investigation into the matter, Ruf Rehman (JKAS), Joint Director of Education (Central), Kashmir, has been directed to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the actions of the suspended officer.
