Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said on Monday that the topic of forming “alliances” with other political parties can be discussed only after the election date is announced.

In a media interview in Okara, the former foreign minister urged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to announce the schedule and date of the elections.

In his speech, he emphasized that the party can start its campaign after the election schedule is announced.

“This is our request to the ECP to announce the election schedule,” he stressed.

Asked about the expected return of PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, Bilawal said, “The return of Mian Sahib has been a long-standing demand of the PPP.”

“PPS is not pressed against the wall […] we have not even moved away from the 2007-2008 elections,” the party chairman also said.

“Former President Asif Ali Zardari has been instructed to deal with his party’s reservations on level playing field,” Bilawal remarked on the topic of “level playing field”.

Last week, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed concern over the lack of a “level playing field” in the country’s political landscape.

Speaking to the media in Sukkur, the former foreign minister expressed his opposition to the political inequality experienced by some politicians.

It “exists for one person,” he said, before continuing, “and that’s the basis of my objection, because there’s no level playing field.”

He emphasized that the election observer has the right to announce the date of the elections while at the same time expressing his faith in the EKP.
